Hey, I like this place!!. This location has been the home of several eateries over the last several years, but none of the others really appealed to me.
I stopped by today to pick up a menu, and soon decided to return, because it felt like a nice place to eat when I went in the first time, and the prices were right. I'd also had a rainy day sleeping in (I work nights), and for me, most Mexican food is good for breakfast, even if it's not really Mexican breakfast food- it's the carb factor of rice + beans.
I returned, and was seated. Soon after, I was served warm tortilla chips and salsa. I reviewed the menu, and decided to go with a chicken chimichanga. This one seemed to be more griddle-fried than deep-fried, but it was still slightly crisp, and had a nice amount of cheese sauce (or dip- I usually avoid this stuff, but forgot to ask that it be omited. It was quite tasty. There was also a dollop of Mexican crema, guacamole, and pico de gallo, along with some shredded lettuce- typical for this area- as well as a generous portion of Mexican rice (cooked in a seasoned tomato sauce) and refried beans.
I found all the items to be quite good. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but something I'd love to see stay in place. I also had coffee, which was very good, and served with a little half n half poured into a cup alongside my coffee.
I was so happy with my food that I ordered dessert- a rarity for me when eating Mexican food- some sopapillas- they were delicious. In this case, not puffy, but drizzled with honey and cinnamon, they were perfect for finishing off my second cup of coffee.
The whole meal including coffee and dessert @ about $2.00 each, came to only $11. 50 or so. I was treated well, though I think this place needs a few more customers so that they get in the full swing of keeping multiple customers happy at once.
I sure hope this place makes it. It would be great to have this place stay in our neighborhood. There's quite a bit of space for parking, and when the the weather allows, there are outdoor tables and chairs on the porch, and Castlewood Park is nearby. Oh, there is a great ramp for anyone with mobility challenges. Drop by and check this place out. Love the fact that it is independently owned, and the folks are really sweet!
