Oh boy, where do I even begin?
I moved to LA two months ago from Florida. Upon arriving, I was greeted with a plethora of new fast food options: El Pollo Loco, Carl's Jr., and of course the legendary In-N-Out burger. But one of them stands head and shoulders above the rest; a man amongst boys, nay, a god amongst mortals: Original Tommy's.
I first went on a chilly February evening after a night out downtown at Clifton's Republic-or as I refer to it, the Endor Lounge-and my experience was transcendental. At the original location on the corner of Beverly and Rampart I first savaged the glory of a Tommy's double cheeseburger and ate the sandwich in near silence, only speaking to utter the phrase "Dude....so good".
To me, Original Tommy's gets fast food so right. The vegetables used on every burger are incredibly fresh and crisp. The tomatoes are sliced thick and provide a nice mellow touch to the savory beef. The cheese is a melted mess of heavenly creaminess. Finally, the chili is what takes these burgers from a mere meal to a full fledged nirvana.
There is nothing like a Tommy burger. Nothing in this world can compare to how well these bad boys hit the spot when you want something that will satisfy your late night craving. I adore this restaurant and think about it at least once a day. I want to eat here every day. I would. Trust me.
Every location is incredibly clean and well managed. Super efficient staff, and so so friendly, even when I stumbled in at 1 minute before closing, the staff at the North Hollywood location was more than happy to accommodate me and my friends. Thanks y'all!
I wish I could give this place a 100/10. I will go to my grave spreading the gospel of these burgers. Thank you Tommy Koulax for what you have built.
Tommy's is like home comfort food to me. I've been going to the original Tommy's on Beverly and Rampart in the mid 1950's. My parents brought me up on the chili burgers and hot dogs. Now that I live in Whittier, I regularly go to Pico Rivera with an occasional trip to Norwalk, South El Monte, and La Puente. Tommy's is a legendary fixture in Southern California that I highly recommend -- especially if you haven't tried it before.
It was great just like the first time 17 years ago. The flavor has not changed and the atmosphere as well. Love going down memory lane.
