BEST sushi in LA. Taka's storefront is virtually invisible on its busy Van Nuys Blvd location, just south of the 101, but it is by far the finest sushi joint in all of Los Angeles.
The portions are gigantic; the fish is always incredibly fresh and delicious; prices are very reasonable; and despite its wonderful food, it has almost always been able to seat us and serve us quickly.
Avoid the regular menu, which is full of the uninteresting pseudo-Japanese food for Americans. Go with the sushi bar and treat yourself to the creations of the owner. Favorite meal: albacore sushi with the crispy fried bits of green onion; scallop sushi; oysters on the half shell; and the best spicy tuna and california roll anywhere. The spider roll is fat and delicious, and the rainbow roll has more fish on it than any other rainbow roll I have ever eaten.
Lunchtime specials are incredibly inexpensive and high-quality, too.
Freshest fish, finest flavor, great staff. Been eating our sushi at Taka's sushi bar for more than 4 years. It is a fun place that gets crowded after 7 pm so get there when its just opening at 5 pm. My favorite is yellow tail (large fatty pieces), rainbow roll (all sorts of fish for the rainbow with avacado added for the green) and fresh water eel.
