The "Fountain Burger" is hands down the best burger I've ever had in my entire life... and I've had a lot of burgers. Just take a look at the ingredients, everything you would want on a burger. Creaminess from the 4 year aged Hooks cheddar, crunchy texture and subtle bitterness from the heaping pile of onions, then the spciy notes from the char-girlled jalapenos, and lets not forget the bacon to bring it all together.
I also recommend the chicken wings; buffalo style obviously!
We went to the Fountain for some burgers, and we weren't disappointed. The Fountain is an interesting place, with several entrances and two distinct dining areas. There is a small room in the front right off of State Street with a nice bar and a few tables. There is also a side entrance and a rear entrance, though I'm not sure if the rear entrance is open. We entered through the side and sat in the back dining room, which has old booths and a big bar as well. Some folks were setting up for a Jazz jam, and a few other tables seemed to be enjoying themselves. Pretty old furniture, and not impeccably clean, but not dirty either.
We read that the Fountain focuses on local/seasonal fare, and they definitely had a great local beer list. We had onion strings and beer cheese soup as an appetizer, and they arrived lightning fast. Good onion strings and very tasty homemade soup.
We both had a build-your-own burger for dinner. Great choice of toppings. We both really enjoyed our burgers. Perfect medium rare and really tasty beef. Very messy, but really good. The sweet potato fries are great and there were good french fries as well. Good sauces to go on the burgeers and to dip the firs in as well. I like the chipotle aioli and the smoky bleu cheese dressing.
Nothing fantastic, but a very satisfying burger with pleasant service.
Good food, friendly service, relatively cheap drinks. Nice mix of people between the front and back rooms.
