Awesome find (our first with Urbanspoon). We went to Raul's after visiting the Morris Museum. Between us we ordered 5 different savory empanadas plus 3 desert empanada.
We had: The Rock (beef and chedder), Chicken, Hawaiian (Ham and pinapple), Duck and Fig, and 5 Sausage. Dessert - Adam's Apple, Guava and Cheese, and Chocolate with berries.
For the savory, the rock was a great basic empanada as was the chicken. If your more adventurous, check out the specials which is where we found the duck and fig. It was interesting and my husband who likes sweet sauces on meat loved it. I, who don't think sweet and meat should mix, found it ok. The 5 sausage was awesome! The sausages were ground and mixed together with cheese and worked really well. There was enough spice to be flavorful without being buring hot. The Hawiian was the sole clunker...sorry the ham in it was super salty chunks and the pinapple was way to sweet for me.
Of the three dessert empanada, Guava was our favorite, but the chocolate berry was a close second. Quality chocolate and was used and very much appreciated.
Above and beyond the food, the staff were awesome. they offered good recommendations and feedback when we asked questions and checked on how we were doing which doens't usually happen at a counter service joint on a Saturday afternoon.
Bona fide latin. Home-made and fresh empanadas. Good selection and choices. Very reasonable prices and a good option for light cheap eats. The owner is Latin American so you are not getting anything improvised.
Just plain awesome. I've been going to this place ever since the place opened. I just got back to the area recently after a year, and the food has consistently been better. Do they use 973Delivery.com? I would order this for lunch if they did!
