Reasonable price . Big portion . Authentic Chinese taste. Can take out or eat in . The staff are friendly too. They also serve vegetarian choice !!
We had the tofu, cucumber, beef noodles, the cumin lamb bao and cumin lamb noodles. Hands down it was my fiancé’s favorite eatery for this NYC trip we made. The chili oil was such a star. All meats were tender and flavorful. The cucumber was refreshing to have and the tofu was well flavored. Excellent meal! We were more than stuffed and would come back.
As an Xi’an native, I would say the food is really authentic! For the pork burger, the meat is juicy yet not greasy. The thinly cut and chopped pieces give it a very soft texture. The bun is crispy, though not exactly made in the authentic way which has more layers and even more crispiness. The Liang pi is no doubt, spicy and refreshing, just as the authentic plate I used to have in Xi’an!
Allegedly one of the best places for a budget lunch in New York, Xi'an Famous Foods serves dishes from the interior of China which are an interesting mix between what we traditionally associate with Chinese cuisine and influences from the steppe peoples of Central Asia. Hot, spicy and rather greasy - they are a perfect choice on a gloomy November afternoon. I picked the classic spicy cumin lamb pulled noodles and they totally lived up to my expectations. The serving was enough for a full meal and though not everyone will like the fast-food character of the place, they are the best ambassadors of Xi'anese cuisine that region of China could imagine.
Stop telling all your friends please! I want all the 🌶🌶🌶🍜🍜🍜🍜 to myself. Literally just point at anything on the menu. It's all 🔥. Spicy, delicious, 🔥.
Only in New York… a restaurant can have its patrons line up out the door and squeeze through a narrow hallway for the chance to eat while facing a wall. I say “chance” due to the extremely limited seating. Xi’An Famous Foods is a NYC-based chain with eight restaurants in Manhattan, featuring northwestern China’s specialities such as hand-ripped “biang biang” noodles and lamb “burgers,” heavily seasoned with spices like cumin, chilli, Sichuan peppercorns and more. hippoCHAN and I visited the one nearby her school for a quick meal before heading home.
The dishes at xi'an are an incredibly unique burst of flavour. The noodles have the perfect texture that is not too soft so they become mushy with sauce. I found the dish a bit spicy for my taste but it was so flavourful that it didn't even bother me. Great prices for decent size potions and the staff is really friendly and helpful when trying to choose a menu item.
Xian famous foods is owned by jasan wang. You will get the authentic Chinese cuisine here. It's one of the best Chinese food i had in nyc . It's affordable and usually crowded.
Should definitely try the stewed pork burger. It's not the usual burgers with veggies and sauces.
Should also try the hand pulled noodles soup.
It is an amazing place to get a bite of truly authentic food from Xi'an- a city that is full of history and culinary richness. The location is convenient for a pre- or post- broadway show treat
From reading beforehand I knew they accepted cash only, so I came prepared. They often have quite a queue to get the food as well- on their website they actually list all their locations and if you click on each specific location, they have a real time store traffic-meter to show how busy it is! That’s awesome. I was lucky enough to get there right in time for a meal turnover- all the seats were full but were finishing up. This was extremely lucky because
Great to find some good taste from hometown! We tried a variety of dishes, and they all taste pretty authentic. I’d say the pork burger 肉夹馍 is not as good as in those in Xi’an city back in China — too dry. But it’s already pretty awesome to enjoy those flavors here in the NYC!
I was pleasantly surprised by the service, price, and quality of this store. Not only was the price point very respectable, esp in a place like NYC, but the options were also diverse. They sold their own mixed tea drinks as well as provided quick service (one staffed two registers!). I didn’t realize, but there’s a very clean and large eating space towards the back of the store; they have a clean bathroom for customers and employ the clean-after-yourself method which can be hit-or-miss but I had a clean experience. Overall, food was a bit salty but that’s a lot of spicy foods from Xi’an anyway; water is provided so drink up! Would love to return!
Excellent food with an unexpected palate. The noodles are freshly made right in front of you. Excellent soups as well. This is not a fancy place (see photos), so wear something comfortable. The counter space is the only seating option, and can get shoulder-to-shoulder. Very reasonably priced for its location.
I've only ever had the spanish dumplings and pan seared noodles, but they're amazing! So much flavor and the texture of the fresh noodles is just perfect. However, seating is limited and tight so be prepared to wait for seats if you want to dine in.
Trendy and popular Chinese chain that lives up to the hype and expectations. They specialize in noodles and dumpling dishes served both hot and cold. I've only had their spicy cumin noodles with lamb (N1), which was absolutely flavorful and exceeded expectations. I highly recommend travelers to try this place or any of their locations as I will be making regular trips here
Very, very good. Even if you don't like spicy food, highly recommend you at least go with their original spice level for authentic taste. The noodles are the best we've tasted, hands down, across the coutnries we've been to thus far.
All dishes were prepared fast. Even with long queuing, it went fast.
Finding seats is a bit of a challenge, especially with bigger group, so is best to go individually or with two pax.
Highly recommended!
When you’re looking for simple and fast Chinese food, you won’t find better than this. This restaurant has taken the Xi’an cuisine and simplified it into a handful of dishes. I highly recommend F6 and F1. That is the spinach dumplings (which are amazing) and the creamy tofu. The dumplings have a wonderful umami flavor that is accented with the spicy chili oil that is added. The creamy tofu falls apart as you cut it, and the spicy broth that it is in is an excellent addition. Definitely recommend those! The lamb noodles are apparently another must get item, but that will be for another time.
Oh my good food. Very casual place for quick and DELICIOUS, AUTHENTIC Xi'An food. Xi'An is famous for its wheat-base noodle. We ordered multiple dishes. All quite savory. Chinese style sandwich was awesomely tasty. Handmade wide noodle was my favorite.
I had the (N1) spicy cumin lamb hand ripped noodles and it was amazing. Full of flavor and the freshest noodles. Very filling. Went there at lunch time on a Friday and they managed to get me out of there in about 10minutes despite a line up outside.
Keeping it short and sweet.
Stumbled across this take out online and was not disappointed. The noodles had incredible flavour and texture. And all this for just over $10.
We went twice during our 2 week stay in New York and the second time was just as good as the first, we also went to 2 different locations. Top! The only negative thing about location 2 (off times square) was that the seating area gets quite cramped quickly. This seems to standard around this neck of the woods though so my overall impression was not effected.
Oh man I wish this place would open up on the West Coast. No frills dining experience (you get to face a wall and it's all disposable plates/bowls/utensils) but the food is incredibly flavorful. The beef noodle soup, the veggie dumpling soup and spicy cucumbers were amazing. I need to try the dry noodles but I don't want to miss out on the soup dishes either!
This the definition of "you get a taste of China without leaving midtown". The food is authentic and priced right. Best of all its fast casual, which millennial and lunch breakers can really appreciate. The eating space is awful but I'm here for food not a throne to sit on.
Very good Chinese food, tried almost everything on their menu. Staffs are friendly and attentive. Atmosphere feels comfortable and lovely. Overall great place for Chinese food.
Midtown's up and coming hole in the restaurant!! This is a western Chinese style hand drawn noodle. They specialize in hand drawn noodles and the menu is very focused towards this genre. I ordered a N1 which is the famous cumin lamb with noodles. The thick irregular looking noodles really hold on to the spicy cumin sauce cooked in hot oil. The lamb just compliments the whole dish by adding a lean meaty taste. I highly recommend to try this place as it is a top choice in NYC
I try to go to at least one of their locations whenever I'm in the city. Just incredible. Spicy deliciousness. The spicy cucumber salad is a must-have side. This time I got the spicy cumin lamb, but the oxtail is awesome too, along with everything else. Go go go and get some.
Was visiting NYC, and stopped by here for lunch with my girlfriend. We ordered the ripped noodles with lamb/cumin. It was phenomenal. Soup tasted great, and the noodles very good as well. Definitely worth a try. Also relatively cheap for a big dish.
This place lives up to the hype. It's a real hole-in-the-wall and has zero frills, but that's all part of the allure. The noodles are *fresh* which is kind of a big deal. You taste the difference -- the texture, the flavor, the way it swims in the sauce. And the sauce (and soups) -- it's a thing food dreams are made of. Perfectly spicy and balanced. The dumplings are made with the same love. There will be a line to order. Wait in it. It's worth it.
If you don't like a busy, pokey little shop where you have to fight for a seat to eat 3ft noodles, don't come here if you like the fact that this place is super popular, the food is reasonably priced and really delicious then I would definitely recommend. The lamb cumin noodles are excellent and I'm sure it all is.
