My first visit in years, and the ambiance is more upscale than I remembered, but the food and service are even better! My friend had the Penne Bolognese and I ordered the Lasagne - both dishes were wonderful!
There's nothing particularly exciting/revolutionary about Luna Piena, but it's certainly consistent in terms of superb Italian fare. The lasagna in particular is superb - a must try! The service did seem a bit scattered, but on the other hand, I was there as part of a large group (several tables) on an already hectic Saturday evening. They also had live music, which was not overly loud and a nice, festive (pre-holiday touch). Definitely worth a visit!
In a city saturated with Italian restaurants, this establishment manages to stand out. That is due mostly to their fish dishes and desserts. Other dishes are average. Their wine selection is limited, but the few options available represent some of the best wines Italy has to offer.
The service staff is personable, attentive, knowledgeable, and adapts their speed based on the customers. Some want to be in-and-out and therefore it'll be fast. Others like to enjoy their meal slowly while conversing with their table mates and hence service will interrupt you less and let you be (they never rush you). I love that about this restaurant.
There is a wall waterfall towards the back. In such a loud city, that sound is pleasant to listen to while dining.
Great service and food, reasonable prices. Helpful and attentive staff despite lunchtime crowd. Fritta Mixta and Italian sausage were excellent.
Huge portions - delicious food - extremely attentive service. restaurant smelled a little strange but other than that it was fabulous!

YUMMMMMM!!!!!!. Every time I visit nyc my first priority is dinner at luna piena- my daughter and I crave the gnocchi with marinara, divine! for nyc the prices are reasonable. I would recommend asking for a table up front as I like the energy there. the service could not be better- they treat you like they are genuinely happy to serve you, very attentive and warm. always a great meal and a wonderful, relaxed evening!
Fantastic Service & Taste. I always measure Italian restaurants against my favorites in Montreal. Luna Piena is as good as any and the prices are very reasonable. Our waiter presented a wonderful gastronomical assortment of appetizers to start us off (enormous portions) and the main courses were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The staff truly cares about the customer and the quality of their brand. Don't pass this one by!
Wonderful!!!. I saw the great reviews of this restaurant on Urban Spoon and it wasn't too far from our hotel, so we decided to grab dinner there. Everything our party of 5 ordered was wonderful!!! We had a very relaxed meal and as other reviewers had noted, the service was great!! I highly recommend dinning here if you are in New York, great Italian food, very cozy restaurant, and wonderful service...an all around great experience.
Excellent! We were in NY four nights and ate there two of those four nights.
Exceptional Service. The food was great tasting, but the service was the part that will bring me back. All the staff were pleasant and friendly. We tried the grilled calamari, seafood ravioli and duck breast past. All were exceptional. The desserts have a "home made" taste to them.
Highly recommended.
Strong mimosas but sparse service. Food palatable but not superior. Definitely a place to add to brunch club but not to double dip.
Came in for the lunch special, great deal! 3 courses that were outstandingly good and you can tell they really make an effort and don't just slop some crap on your plate get their 20% tip and get you out of there like so many other manhattan restaurants do now days. The service was very attentive, staff was very nice, and food was very good.
Great service from entire staff (server, hostess and busser). This restaurant has a relatively good Groupon (thus raising value of the meal) that convinced me to try dining here for relatively relaxed date night. The specials menu was standard: 2 appetizers, 1 fish entree, 1 seafood pasta entree, and 1 steak entree. The bread basket is composed of Italian white bread rolls and tomato and herb focaccia. For my party of two, the restaurant seated us at a comfortable four-top table. I was pleasantly surprised by how large the entrees' sides were. The medium rare ribeye was a fairly good cut but not the best I ever had for the price tag of $38. We had to send the first steak back because my medium rare steak came well done on a lukewarm plate. I normally accept a medium steak for a medium rare order-- especially when the restaurant is busy--but this large steak was overcooked to a point of chewiness. The server was gracious in quickly taking my plate back to the kitchen, while the busser quickly changed my utensils. I found this to be an appropriate reaction. Salmon was grilled to a perfect temperature. Overall a good restaurant experience. The server put an automatic 20% tip on the check before subtracting the $60 value of our Groupon, which is fair because the restaurant owners should not offer the discounted meal at the wait staff's expense.
Had dinner here recently and loved it. Wonderful experience all the way: delicious food, great attentive service and lovely garden setting. The lobster and seafood pasta special was excellent.
Excellent service, excellent food! Lasagna, chicken fettuccine..simply amazing. I don’t understand these reviews bc I’ve been to Italy and this is authentic Italian cuisine! Very reasonably priced, especially for NYC!
Literally the best lasagna that I have ever had before. At first we questioned the smell of the place, but left very satisfied and couldn't wait to tell others about our experience. I would definitely return to Luna Piena.
I have ordered MealPal (to go) from here a couple of times. Great portion sizes (could almost be enough for two meals) and great food. I was VERY late picking it up one time, and they were very accomodating.
Amazing place for brunch, lunch or dinner! When you come here ask for Valon, he is not only knowledgeable about the menu, but also a great person. Valon is essential to what makes this restaurant great. I honestly would recommend any and everyone to come here.
Genuine, old-school pasta is one of our favorites. And great service, too! If you like the real Italian dish, here is the place.
Fantastic meal with great service. Both the salmon and the potato crusted bass were outstanding, and the mixed vegetables were just as delicious.
Brunch was great! Mimosas were strong!
had terrific service by Peter, an outstanding mixed greens salad followed by extraordinary linguine with clams -- and an excellent sauvignon blanc. Could not ask for better anywhere.
Amazing food. Great hospitality. Some of the best chicken marsala I have eaten. The Penne with pesto sauce was outstanding as well.
Fabulous food, service fabulous!! Just a fantastic dining experience. Highly recommended. Wish I could give it 10 stars!!!
Lovely staff. They were very patient and explained all the menu choices we asked about. Great food as well
