Yoko's Japanese Restaurant & Sushi in Portland is a small, unassuming restaurant that serves some of the most delicious and fresh sushi I've ever had. The restaurant is located in a quiet neighborhood, and it has a cozy, intimate atmosphere. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they are always happy to make recommendations.
I've tried a variety of dishes at Yoko's, and I've never been disappointed. My favorites include the Takas Tuna, Salmon Nigiri, and the Creamy Scallops. I also recommend the Apple Yeast sake, which is a perfect pairing for the sushi.
✨Best (shhhhhhhh) IYKYK kept, tiny sushi spot in all of PDX
✨Arrive before 5pm or you’ll be waiting until 7pm (no resys available)
✨Salmon chili roll, takas tuna, poke roll, shishito leaf special, baked muscles….omg! rainbow roll, and any/all nigiri is off the charts fresh
✨Run…don’t walk!
(PSA: They go to Japan each Summer/July or Aug for 2 weeks, and are fully closed down then.)
Yoko's has been a neighborhood institution for years. The food quality is absolutely fantastic, and it has the vibe of a very busy, hopping joint. It's cozy, crowded, and bustling. The sake selection is wonderful and reasonably priced, and the fish is well portioned and high quality. Unfortunately, of late the service has decreased in quality. We dined as a party of three on a fairly busy Friday night at 8PM, where there seemed to be only one, or possibly two servers working. That is really not sufficient for a place of this capacity. When our food arrived, or shall I say "landed", the server half slammed/slid the giant plate loudly across our completely crowded table nearly knocking our drinks over. He did this again when our second plates arrived. There was no description or introduction of the items ordered. There also seemed to be some sort of altercation between the same server and some people seated at the sushi bar. Lots of fist bumping seemed to awkwardly smooth things over.
Bottom line: I will be back for the food and sake, but probably on a Wednesday.
