Finally some quality cuisine in St. Louis. Chef Logan Ely is able to modify simple ingredients into exceptional dishes that provide visually and orally. The communal bar eating space adds to the welcoming aesthetic while maintaining the focus on the kitchen. I highly recommend to anyone in or visiting the area.
We opted for the 12-course which was reasonably priced and would have gone for the wine pairing if we had a driver. Will be back soon!
Savage is fantastic from decor to food and beverage pairings, just amazing! Not in a popular location and also not labeled other than by the old A&B liquor and meat sign, the decor is a gritty industrial chic and is dark and brooding. The main dining room is kitchen bar seating around the kitchen so you can watch all the action. There is also a patio for outdoor seating. The tasting menus come in three sizes: snack (4), 6 courses and 12 courses. There are also positions with the tasting courses which are highly recommended. The meals are vegetable forward and I would say that the onion with toasted yeast/malt porridge with shiitake mushrooms was the best filled closely by the roasted cabbage with creamy sour goat's milk. Overall all the courses were amazing as were three cider, beer and wine in the pairing. Parking is on street and not difficult to find. Definitely a must try.
Watching the Savage team through a service is like watching performance art. Each dish is purposeful and precisely plated. Textures and tastes are comingled together into perfect bites. Portion sizes are small and so even though we had the 12 course tasting menu we didn't end the meal feeling quite sated.
