The best omakase experience we’ve had so far. We travelled from Houston for vacation during my birthday. The service was exceptional, and we really loved the sake pairings because they were very individualized based on taste. The meal was incredibly unique with many fishes more commonly consumed in the summer. 100% would come back here the next time we come back to Seattle.
First off, I just want to say that I know Taneda-san personally, in that my husband worked with him sixteen years ago at a sushi restaurant.
When we decided to visit Seattle (we no longer live there) for Thanksgiving break, we really wanted to try out Taneda-san's new restaurant.
We read online that reservations seemed really hard to get, so we set up an official Tock account and entered all our credit card information in advance. When the reservations opened up, we immediately logged in to Tock and tried to get a reservation. We were happily surprised when we snagged a reservation for when we'd be in town!
We are not bots, and we did not get any preferential treatment when making a reservation. I guess we just got supremely lucky to get a reservation on our first try! I say this not to rub it in anyone's face who has been trying for many times, but perhaps as encouragement that it's not impossible to get a reservation.
Taneda-san and his staff offer a welcoming dining experience from beginning to end. Omakase can be an intimidating experience, but Taneda-san is open to answering any questions about ingredients. He takes time to describe how each dish was prepared and how seasonality was taken into consideration.
One of the highlights of the meal was tasting ingredients I've never had before.
Our evening at Taneda is one we'll never forget.
Worthy of having their own Michelin star in my opinion. My fiancé and I managed to snag a reservation and it was our best meal ever that blew away all of the other omakase and sushi restaurants we have ever been, including a few other Michelin rated restaurants we had before in Southern California. The service was impeccable, great sake pairing options catered to your taste (if you decide to go with the sake pairing), and Chef Taneda is very personable, really gets to know you and very humble to talk about his craft and life experiences! They have a rotating omakase menu that is dependent on what is in season for the ingredients they select to serve. Some omakase places I have been to have left me still hungry afterwards, but this place we were all so full after with the amount of rounds they serve! Make sure to have fast internet when you try to reserve a spot, and thankfully they try to block out any bots using Tock! The price may look a little steep, but it is very well worth the overall experience and service.
Taneda-san's prowess with akami and kohada is truly commendable. Each morsel showcases precision and deep respect for the craft.
However, for the price commanded, one anticipates a more diverse array of ocean treasures. While the classics shine, a touch more innovation would elevate the experience to its deserving pedestal.
Taneda is the best sushi and kaiseki I have ever tried in my life. Chef is so creative and genius of creating new dishes with seasonal ingredients every month. Not only the ingredients but also the rice and excellent temperature control of food make every bite so mind blowing. I also love the traditional and bright dining environment. It is a place where I feel I am fully dedicated to enjoy the food. I highly recommend the sake paring, it balances the fatty taste of fish and Taneda always has the best sake he can find😆. I always look forward to having the next experience with Taneda!
Absolutely the best dining experience of my life. I think it’d be impossible to describe what it was like, I’ll just say that I am completely willing to just eat rice/lentils at home in order to save up to go to Taneda once each season 🙌🙌🙌. Each piece/dish was truly a work of art! I loved how sakura was incorporated to reflect the spring season!
My wife somehow got us reservations for the 7:30 seating on my actual birthday. Dont know how she did it considering how difficult it is to get into this place. Have had high end Omakase many times before and this experience was near the top! Loved the cool little location of the shop and the atmosphere. All the patrons and staff were friendly and festive. Chef was great and the sake pours didnt stop. Everything was beautiful, delicious and amazing. Cant wait to go back once I have saved up some money again!! Loved everything about Taneda!!!
In a word: incredible. Staff are extremely nice and chef explains every bite in great detail. Incredients are fresh and delicious, featuring a rotating menu that changes with the months and seasons.
In the ~2 hour time frame, you'll be transport into a different dimension. Welcome to chef Taneda's world of flavor, featuring a masterful balance of different tastes. Even the ginger here (chef's secret recipe!) is delicious.
Be on time, be respectful and enjoy the experience.
Taneda is hands down the most perfect meal I have ever had. Seattle boasts many great sushi experiences and I feel fortunate enough to have tried many of them, but Taneda by far bests the rest with beautiful and complex flavors, an intimate balance between contemporary and traditional flavor combinations, and extremely attentive service! I rarely feel compelled to write reviews for restaurants but the quality of each ingredient and the execution made me feel I had to share my feelings for this newfound favorite! I would give more than 5 stars if I could. Chef Taneda's sushi is artistic and flavorful and everything I could ever want for a meal. I don't think I've even had such an amazing sushi meal in Japan! I can't wait to come back.
The kind of place you plan an entire weekend trip across the country for when a friend scores a reservation. Spectacular, hyper seasonal menu and an intimate experience. Though I've had almost every one of the ingredients served before, Taneda-san and his team made them wholly new - the experience was like meeting unagi or aji for the very first time. Everything was beautiful, and I hope we'll have a chance to return.
