Just enjoyed a wonderful brunch. The ambience and view are lovely, and the staff are very friendly (our 10 month old loved playing peek-a-boo with our server) and professional (attentive but not hovering).
The hanger steak was cooked a perfect medium-rare (as requested) and very tender. It was decently trimmed with just enough fat for flavor. The farmer omelette was not particularly special, but the portion size was good.
We hope to be back again soon.
This place just blew me away. When you first walk in your greeted by a nice women asking you for help and saying Hello.. You can’t help but look around at what is a beautiful place. The staff is amazing, nice, attentive, and show that they care and know the menu inside and out. They informed us about the story of the place, where they get the food, and upcoming events. The food is truly a step above the best. I can’t wait to go back with my friends, family, fiancé, or anyone willing to go.. Top Notch in every field..
Fear not New Jersey'ans...the trip to Surf NY in Staten Island is straight-forward and quite easy...and the travel is well worth it. The attention to detail, from the moment you walk in the door until you've scraped the last bit of dessert from your plate is exceptional. The staff is friendly and professional, and match the warmth and feel of the restaurant...and of course, the view of Manhattan and the Verrazano Bridge never gets old.
As for the food...most everyone has experienced restaurants (on the Jersey Shore and elsewhere) where the view 'sells' the experience while the food lags behind. Not the case with Surf NY. While it certainly has 'checked the box' with its sweeping and accessible views of the NY skyline I will say, without hesitation, that Surf NY serves food you would follow into a dark alley to eat...and enjoy...and come back for more.
The menu has depth and variety...and Surf's "Wood Fire Cooking" has the effect of providing a consistency in theme and with preparation that is stunning. Surf NY is as good as it gets.
What we (4) ate: Butternut Squash soup, Octopus, Charred Carrots, Creamed Spinach, Brussel Sprouts, Sweet Mashed, Cowboy Steak, Market Fish (Black Sea Bass), "Impossible Burger' (Surf's vegan veggie burger). For Dessert...Skillet Crisp, Chocolate Cake and of course, Donuts & Coffee (French Press'd and quite awesome)
Got to go...it's Saturday morning and surf's up on the Jersey Shore (really). In the meantime, hope you get the opportunity to enjoy Surf NY in Staten Island.
