Randomly ended up here around 2pm on a Sunday while we were driving around. It has neat old school decor, there are about 3 tables with chairs inside and a bunch of picnic tables outside. We shared the grouper cheeks and lobster corn dog with fries. Wow! All items were very good! The fries, seasoned with fresh garlic, Parmesan, and cilantro, are amazing. My one regret is that the grouper cheeks are made with cornmeal breading rather than the batter the lobster was dipped in. We will definitely be back!
The patio is pretty well shaded and there were 2 guys playing acoustic guitar. Really a nice lunch spot!
Heads up if you have a mobility impairment, this place isn’t what I would call “accessible.” Crushed shells, stationary picnic tables, soda machine in an awkward corner, bathroom out back with a narrow entry. I’m sure you’ll manage but like many “hole in the wall” places it has a lot of...”character.”
While I was near Macdill AFB I found this place on my map app, the pictures from the reviews made me super hungry. This place met all my expectations. I had the grouper cheek salad and it was awesome!!! The portions were perfect and flavor was on perfect. I have been looking for a place that had cheeks since I moved here from a Panama City. The staff was knowledgeable of where the fish came from and very nice. I will be back to try the lobster corndog very soon. This is a hidden jewel where the local community contributes pictures of their local catches that are used to decorate one of the walls. If you haven't been here yet, put it on your list of places to visit soon.
I’m a total seafood snob and this place is legit! Everything we tried was top notch. The peel and eat shrimp was some of the best I’ve had in my life!
I literally live right around the corner from the place and never knew it was here! I was standing in line at publix waiting for a sandwich and I don't remember how it came up but the guy behind me mentioned something about their grouper sandwich. Literally like 3 other people chimed in praising this place shocked that I lived so close and never been. We came the next day and had the blackened grouped sandwich and I knew it was love. It's definitely at least once a week we're here! SO GOOD!!!!
Lobster Corndog was out of this world!! The Grouper Sandwich was flaky and delicious, (maybe the best I've had), and the fresh chopped garlic parmesan fries with cilantro were outstanding. Great local beer selection, great atmosphere, really neat place. We will definitely be back!
The grouper sandwich and the fried shrimp are the best in town!!! The staff is courteous, entertainment just right and the atmosphere was awesome!!!!
Rays Fish Camp delivers wonderful food and terrific service, no matter how busy they are on a Friday night. The food is fresh, cooked to order and delicious. Saw a grumpy customer being surly and rude to the staff for no reason. The staff treated him with genuine respect and gracious service. The other customers witnessed it all and told the staff they handled everything exactly right. Can’t ask for more than that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Best Grouper sandwich in Tampa... be bad, get the fried one! While the fries are to die for... the onion rings might be even better! If they move from this little hole in the wall... it might not be the same. Can't go wrong at Big Ray's.
This place has the best blackened grouper sandwich on the planet. Go get one.
Where else are you gonna find a Lobster Corn dog! So damn good
Nothing like fresh seafood, to get you excited about grubbin!

Awesome food worth the 40 mile drive good vibes great food better service
Kathy...thanks for talking me into the parm, garlic and cilantro fries. They did NOT disappoint! Best grouper sandwich I’ve had in a long while.
I’ve dined here on four or five occasions. I’ve never been disappointed. The blackened grouper sandwich is to die for. In fact, I’m craving one right now.
They make a good grouper sandwich (I've had it blackened and fried) and their cuban is really good as well. Small place with mostly outdoor seating. The staff has always been pleasant and the service was prompt every time I've eaten there.
On Sunday, my mom, my sister (A.K.A Spiller) and I went to Big Ray’s Fish Camp for a late lunch. I ordered a Shrimp Po’Boy. It had fried shrimp, tomato, and lettuce. I also ordered a side of onion rings. My sister and I split the sandwich. This is me about to try my sandwich. I was so exited to try it, because it looked so good!
I can’t say how good it feels to back to blogging. This site, which has been very near and dear to my heart, is turning 6 in April. After almost a two year hiatus, I am celebrating this milestone with a new design and going back to my blogging roots by featuring places that make my heart melt like a gooey grilled cheese sandwich. Last week I visited my new favorite spot South of Gandy and also walking distance from my house…..Big Ray’s Fish Camp.
Great size menu, it's on the small side but that's because it's fresh. Food quality was top notch and the service was great. It did take a while for food but it was worth it. I suggest you call ahead.
Great new addition to South Tampa. The owners are friendly and the food is great. I loved the grouper sandwich. Can't wait to try everything.
Really enjoy the outdoor picnic tables.
Absolutely the best blackened grouper sandwich I’ve ever had! Also enjoyed the onion rings and fries. Tried out the lobster corn dog (made of two lobster tails). Which while tasty, was expensive. We thought the grouper cheeks were fantastic. Coleslaw was vinegar based, I liked it but ymmv. Service was prompt. Noticed a lot of people doing take out. Would definitely come back for the blackened grouper and the grouper cheeks.
Ok... this place, on the water, with little help, could easily be 5 stars. The food quality, taste and selection are 5 stars easily. Service needs a little help as they may not be able to handle busy time and not everything works as expected. But it's the location just off a fairly busy road and mostly outside with limited cover, that needs to be on a beach and I'd fall in love! Try the grouper reuben and the grouper bites! YUM!!
Absolutely fabulous fresh grilled or fried fish. Super laid back outdoor picnic table atmosphere. Best grilled peel your own shrimp ever! Grouper Sandwich and sides were delicious! Very friendly staff. So excited to come back with family and friends.
Great food! If you are caught off guard from the cost, remember the fish is brought fresh from local sources every morning. This casual dining experience was exactly what I needed.
This place is pretty good. I had the grouper sandwich and it was pretty good. I wish there was more sauce on the fish. Where there was sauce it was really good the edges not so much. If I came back I'd ask for a side of it.
Probably the best blackened grouper sandwich and the very best onion rings you will ever have anywhere. 💥 boom
Always amazing. The Blackened Grouper sandwich is amazing. I love the laid back atmosphere.
Came in for the shrimp corndogs just before closing. The guy who took our order was super nice about it. And we were NOT disappointed with the corndogs! So good & made with giant shrimp!!
The lady at the counter was very nice and knowledgeable. I had the Grouper Sandwhich and it was AMAZING! I live in Orlando and am tempted to come to Tampa just for their food.
The restaurant is very small with room for maybe 8-10 to sit. They did, however, have outside seating as well.
Will definitely be back to try their other items on the menu!
Just absolutely delicious. This gem is a must visit when your in Tampa! With Indoor or outside dining will make you wanting more! Fresh and seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend visiting Ray’s.
