The food was delicious, the owner and staff were friendly and sociable, and the portions are huge (warning... You'll go home with extras). The beans are fantastic and the cornbread is the best I've ever had. My husband even said the chicken fried steak is at the top of his best list. We'll be back the next camping trip.
I ate there twice during my stay at Choke Canyon State Park . The first time I stopped in for barbecue because I was on my way to another barbecue joint and this one was closer. The barbecue was OK. It didn't seem like it came off the grill. It was almost as if someone had cooked it up earlier and was storing it in an oven. The beans and potato salad were very good. I went back two days later on my way to the Salsa Fest. This time I had a bacon cheeseburger. It was awesome, which is why I still give this place 5 stars. I haven't had a burger that good in a long time. The service was really good. The servers make you feel at home. There's something about the atmosphere that I really liked. I will be back whenever I go to Choke Canyon State Park again. But, for me it will be a burger joint- not a place to eat barbecue. Oh, I forgot, I want to try that awesome looking pecan pie next time, too.
Try the chicken fried steak!!! The small fills the plate. Eat the large only if you are a teenager or want a LOT of leftovers.
