I am not sure whether Lee's is the most authentic Banh Mi you can get in SoCal, but it's accessible in several locations, reasonably priced, consistent, and quite good! At this location, there are several options for both Asian and Western style sandwiches, including breakfast. We typically get the number 11 (combination Vietnamese cold cuts), and number 5 (grilled pork). If you are sensitive to spice, ask for the jalapenos on the side, as they can vary greatly in intensity. The baguettes are baked fresh onsite, and you can even buy them plain for $2.
The iced coffee is famous for a reason and worth a try. You can also buy the concentrate in-store (and in bulk at Costco!).
I love Lee's Sandwiches. Their prices are reasonable and their food and drinks are great. My favorite sandwich is the #4 BBQ chicken sandwich (Asian), although most of my friends love the banh mi. My favorite drink is the matcha green tea with boba, but their coffee is also great. This is also our go-to spot for catered sandwiches, both Asian style on baguettes and western croissants, as well as spring rolls and egg rolls.
During COVID-19 protocols, customers line up outside and enter one at a time to place their order. I ordered their pork sandwich. The cashier asked if I could wait 4 minutes for freshly baked baguette? Of course I said yes. How can you beat a sandwich made with a warm out of the oven French baguette? Then I saw on their menu that you can order just the baguette. Yes! So the photo shows just half the sandwich and half the baguette. . . because I already ate the other half. I’m impressed that a chain restaurant can deliver such tasty foods. I will be back.
