Large portions. We went to Venice today for the Venice Art Festival and while held up in traffic happened to spot Patches. It was busy but there was no wait for a table. As I looked through the menu nothing unusual caught my eye so I went with my go to choice, Corned Beef Hash & Eggs. My wife selected an Egg, Ham & Cheese Croissant sandwich.
My plate was full, plenty of hash and home style potatoes. The hash was canned but I’m fine with canned hash so I found my breakfast good. Too many potatoes that were only average so many of those got left behind. My wife’s sandwich looked ok but something easily assembled at home, especially after learning the croissant came from Publix.
The biggest problem I had was the wait. It took 25 minutes for the food to arrive after we ordered, and it was not a quick process to get to the point of ordering. Looking around we were all experiencing long wait times. No wonder the place looked busy, we were all waiting for food.
Service was also not something to brag about. I can’t really hold up one or two things and say “See, our server messed up”, but just the overall experience felt distant and lacking.
The restaurant is named after the clown Patches. While the décor is clown, there was actually not much décor. From what I have read since our visit the restaurant used to be filled with clowns but much of that must now be gone. People have different opinions of clowns, they are no longer universally loved. I was not able to find out the connection between Patches and the restaurant.
Overall it was lots of food at a good price, nothing special, and slow service.
Average family dining spot best known for big breakfasts at a reasonable price. Friendly staff.

Cute little Cafe. Was seated at once. And asked what I wanted for a drink. Had coffee and it was delivered fast and was perfect. Then I ordered 2 eggs ,bacon , potatoes and rye bread . It did take a little time for it to get out to the table ,but was perfect. Was listening to the table next to me they had ordered liver but I was not sure with what but the waitress had to take it back twice .but I have to say the waitress waited right there for the gentleman to cut into and make sure it was done the right way easy time. Success was had 3rd time was the charm. I do believe they are training a new cook. Or like every place I've been out in the area restaurants. they all are complaining that they can not get cooks . So it's slow going on getting food out. But just as delicious. The place was clean and all customers seemed yo be happy with what they ordered and the waitresses did come around after they see you had a bite or two to ask how is it. They were was helpful and refilling the coffee on time. I recommend this little Jewel.
