I can't believe no one has done a review yet but I will give it a go. Before our kids were born, my wife and I went out to eat 5-6 nights a week. Most of the time it was nowhere special, but with some regularity this included eating at many of the top, best regarded restaurants in Northern Virginia and DC. Point is, we have a lot of experience with top quality, high end dining.
Even though we know the co-founders of Rooster & Owl, we tried to go to the July 23rd pop up with an objective perspective. From our point of view, however, this was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. That is not an exaggeration - we spent most of the evening and a good portion of the next day discussing with each other just how incredibly good the food was. I can't remember the last time we were so blown away by the taste and quality of a meal - possibly never. Each dish was made with an obvious level of care and attention to detail that is hard to find. More importantly, however, each dish was unique - a recipe that we'd never had before, yet was well thought through and delivered on taste.
This is a real gem in the making here, and the chef has an obvious talent that has us looking forward to the next pop up with great anticipation.
I don't impress easily. I have high standards, but I also understand different classes of restaurants. We came to celebrate my 70th birthday. My wife picked the restaurant.
We arrived right on time and were immediately seated at a corner table with a view of the entire place. Our server was Ginger, who was very personable and knowledgeable. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was excellent, as expected. What was both surprising and most impressive was the efficiency of the staff. As soon as we finished a course, the table was cleared and cleaned, and new setups delivered.
Explanations for every dish and wine selection were on point. Chris, the manager, had a significant presence, keeping an eye on everything. He has the presence of an owner. Suffice it to say we were suitably impressed. Two Michelin stars. Well deserved.
Phenomenal food experience. I always judge my fine dining experiences by a simple question “was it worth the price”? And Rooster and Owl resoundingly was. I went with a group of four which is perfect because it allowed us to order every dish off the menu. I’m still thinking about the Kampachi, lobster autumn roll, duck breast, and goat cheese cheesecake. Service is what you expect, just amazing in every way. A very special night with friends and a meal I won’t forget!
