As a long time Capitol- hillbilly, I've been eager to see the recent iteration of the restaurant that was formerly Senart on Barrack Row. I peaked my head in to check out the renovations and decided to stay for drinks and a bite. Caviot- I present obviously straight and African-American male. I did not overlook the rainbow flag flying out front, so I knew where I was. From the moment I entered the establishment, the fairly unfriendly door man carded me, despite my very gray goatee. Not a problem. However, the only friendliness I experience was that of my bartender and server Shawn/Sean and one other African- American waitress. As I was the first person at the very large and empty bar, I had a bird's eye view of other patrons who entered the bar after me. They were were each extended a warm friendly welcome by several employees of the establishment. I enjoyed a few of the small plates and a few glasses of Happy our wine. The wine and roasted beet carpaccio and Panko bread chicken were quite good. The only reason I couldn't give the 5 stars was due to to the general sense of "froideur" I received from the staff. I was the first person in the bar that day. I guess if one is "Family" or perhaps white, it's a cool place to hang out.
Great place for an evening cocktail. They have some great post-brunch champaign specials including a mini bottle bucket! However, it felt quite dark for a daytime drink.
Orchid is AMAZING! Went there with a group of twelve, and we had the best time. Aaron and Nolan took care of us, and they made our night absolutely fantastic - some of the best service I've ever had. The drinks were amazing, the food was delicious, everything came out quickly and as ordered. From the moment we walked in the energy was divine - the whole night was absolutely marvelous. I cannot recommend them enough. We will definitely be back!
