If you are in the DC area and are craving southern comfort food, look no further. Do not be persuaded by the other restaurants claiming to be authentic and delicious. This is the real deal if you love the south in your mouth! The chicken is good. The cornbread, gravy, and the collard greens are absolutely mouthwatering amazing! The owners are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Eat here, and then take a stroll around Howard University. This was the highlight of my trip.
Sweetpea's Classic Soul Food is conveniently located on Georgia Ave. I ordered the fried whiting, baked macaroni and cheese, and potato salad. This business is black-owned and is a member of the Black Chamber of Commerce. It's important to support businesses in our communities. The food is great! They cook the food fresh to order. Come early so you can take advantage of all the delicious bite-sized desserts! The chicken wings are perfect! I'm literally eating them now hot and fresh. The macaroni and cheese is very flavorful and delicious too! The next time I visit I plan to try the shrimp and crab cake with yams. I loved the personalized customer service. They operate with smiles and warmth. I learned that this is a family-owned business and you can taste the love in the food. I'd highly recommend that you visit. It's close to the DC VA Medical Center. I was told they do lots of community service and feed the veterans. I appreciate this small-owned business and the excellent quality of service and food. Definitely check Sweetpea's out. You won't be disappointed!
Living in Utah, I rarely get to experience quality soul food. I ordered the smothered turkey wings with mac & cheese and greens, and everything was seasoned to perfection. Great customer service, humble and friendly owners, and worth every penny. My colleague and I highly reccomend trying out this place if you're ever in D.C. Much gratitude!
