We arrived around 1:30pm to place our order and were informed the wait was 25 minutes. We left almost one hour later. It is a small takeout restaurant and was rather busy. We received additional sides because our orders were incorrect - my advice: check before leaving the restaurant.
I was a little disappointed in the garlic butter shrimp and crab leg... for $35, it was underwhelming. The shrimp was cooked too long and the crab legs weren't properly cleaned before being cooked. The garlic butter had seeped below the foil and luckily didn't spill before making it back to the hotel. There was one container of sauce included but no salad dressing.
The fried shrimp and flounder dinner was really good but the one piece of fish was very small. My daughter enjoyed the lemon pepper wings. The mac and cheese was delicious. The potato salad was good but I prefer more mustard. I was searching for a building like the images online but the restaurant is in a suite... I passed it and had to make a u-turn.
We spent 4 days in Charleston on our first trip here and ate out every meal. All of the other restaurants, although they offered great ambiance, were very high in price. We found this "hole in the wall" on our way out of town and all agree we wish we would have found it our first day here. The fresh made from scratch seafood was the best we've had in years. The portions were unbelievable and this meal cost half of all the others we ate while here. My daughter said the garlic crab legs are the best she's ever had and we all agree the fried shrimp is second to none. I bet there were 15 shrimp in my daughter's shrimp entree that also came with a salad and fries for only $11.50. The shrimp were massive, deveined and cooked to perfection. You may want to carry out since this place is very small with only 3 tables and you order from the counter, but how else could food this good be so affordable? We will definitely make this our first stop on any future trip to Charleston!!!
Garlic crab is most impressive! Drenched is a dynamic rich, spicy delectable sause that's not over the top. It's soul food at its finest. The place is generally a bit sticky and gritty, but the people are kind and bake great food. The pineapple lemonade is also worth the experience.
