My boyfriend and I tried Gemma Saturday night for the first time, celebrating his birthday. We needed a place that served dinner late and wasn't going to close at 11pm, as so many places do. We also wanted someplace romantic, and a bit on the fancy side, with a nice variety of menu options. Gemma met and exceeded our expectations. We arrived earlier than our reservation time, but we were easily accommodated. We were seated at a lovely little table, and despite the restaurant being very busy, the pace in which we were served was timed perfectly. Our waiter was very attentive and courteous, making us feel very welcomed. We ordered the Turkey Meatballs for an appetizer, and I could have eaten a dozen; they were amazing. For our entree', we split the Flat Iron Steak, which was honestly one of the best steaks I've had (that's really saying something). I was particularly impressed with our waiter not at all minding we were splitting an entree', and our dinner was plated beautifully and evenly. We wanted to save room for dessert, hence the split. I asked our waiter to please put a simple candle with our dessert for my boyfriend's birthday, but specifically asked for no singing and to not make a thing of it, and he respected my wishes to a T. We had the Pistachio Semifreddo, which was to die for, and we ate every bite. I highly recommend Gemma to anyone looking to try a new place with excellent food, and an intimate atmosphere. I look forward to dining there again. And I have to say, my favorite thing about Gemma are the little salt servers at every table.
