After escaping the rock concert level noise at reichenbach hall down the street, this revised take on the strand bistro was a welcome relief. Our server, William, was friendly and very patient with our large and unfocused group. There was not much to speak of beer wise, but the wine selection was reasonable. Cocktails are quite small. The food was all good, appetizers and main course, we were too full for dessert. Noise level was pleasant, although the place was not very crowded on a Friday night.
Prices are quite high: $30 on avg. for main courses, wine and cocktails $15.
The food, service and decor is all outstanding.
Service - When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the hostess, Marti, who acknowledged our reservation, sat us, and asked periodically, throughout the meal, if we needed anything else. Our server, Joel, was equally on target. The menu was clearly described. Questions were answered quickly and accurately. The sequencing of the food was excellent.
Food -The food was a nice surprise. The Strand Bistro is well priced and is definitely "FIT FOR FOODIES." We had pan seared scallops, a lobster risotto (generous amount of lobster), a cauliflower truffle soup that was "to die for."
Cocktails -The margaritas were incredibly well made..lots of fresh lime. Try it..you'll love it! Quality Tequilla
Decor - Very nice and comfortable. While the restaurant is in a hotel lobby, the walls are lined with books and there is a fireplace in the center.
Try it...you'll love it.
My husband and I ate dinner here twice on our trip to NYC earlier this week. Both nights we had Juliann as our server. She was knowledgeable, courteous, and didn't look at us like weirdos because we shared meals (we were staying at a different hotel and didn't have a fridge.. didn't want to waste food). She may very well be the best server I've ever had anywhere. The first night, we had the Organic Chicken... it was perfectly cooked, delicious, and the succatash and mashed potatoes that accompanied it were fantastic. Also, the Panko Crusted Mac & Cheese was to die for! Highly recommend it. We visited here again on our anniversary and had an equally wonderful experience. Mac & Cheese again with Almond Crusted Atlantic Salmon... it was moist, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We also tried the "Vincent's Muse" specialty drink, which was very tasty. All in all, for the price, the food is incredible... the service was amazing... we will definitely be back when we visit NYC again.
