In two decades of living in the neighborhood... Why did I never come here before? One of those places you just assume will always be around, but really, I missed out by not coming here sooner. The food is fantastic, but what I really enjoy is how the front of house staff is focused on service, rather than regaling you with descriptions of the food - which I appreciate too, but it's also nice when the focus is as much on the customer's enjoyment as it is on the chef's creations.
The menu proclaims that the grilled veal chop is the best in NY and indeed... It's the best I've ever tasted. Lobster soup was delicious, shrimp were juicy and ginormous, the grappa hit the spot...
Lunch was outstanding and an excellent value. I had the baked clams, salmon and cheesecake with coffee.. All for $29.00
We go to the Italian spot Every time we fly in to th e city. Ray is the GM. Friendly helpful and they will put together an pasta dish even off the menu. Don't miss Ecco.
