Automatic Slims in West Village was named after an old Willie Dixon tune called "Wang Dang Doodle", and to me, this is an all-American bar at its best that plays real music and serves good American bar food! It is also a local for many a friend living in New York and as such I ended up there for drinks with a bunch of friends from London one night! From what I have heard from the locals, it is an institution in the Meatpacking District of legendary status! The beers were cold, the service was friendly and the barman was an expert at lining up the shot glasses! I will definitely be back! "Tell Automatic slim, to tell razor totin' Jim; To tell butcher knife totin' Annie, to tell fast talkin' Fannie ... We gonna pitch a wang dang doodle all night long."
