A Classic NYC Dining Experience. La Rivista/ Broadway Joe's isn't trendy. What it offers is much more significant. Namely, a splendid example of mid 20th Century NY style Italian Steakhouse dining. Semi formal, with low lighting, white table cloths, waiters adorned in white uniforms, Sinatra crooning over satellite radio, and even a piano in the dining room, La Rivista harkens back to a yesteryear many wish still existed. On this stretch of 46th Street, it still does.
In 2014 Broadway Joe's Steakhouse combined forces with neighboring Italian ristorante La Rivista, and now the menus are combined as well. The overall emphasis is on Italian cooking.
The prix fixe dinner specials are an outstanding way to eat like a Rat Packer for a relative pittance. Three courses are offered, including appetizer, soup or salad, main course and your choice from the expansive dessert tray. The choices are numerous, and cover items across the culinary spectrum.
The complimentary bread selections and carved pecorino cheese we were immediately offered got us off to a delicious start. Next we had the veal pâté plate (which my husband thoroughly loved) and a mixed green salad, complete with vine ripened tomato slices and an excellent Italian dressing. We also recommend the sautéed chicken breast with artichoke hearts in a white wine sauce, as well as the seafood risotto with asparagus. Actually, I suspect everything on the menu will find you smiling.
The wine list isn't particularly extensive, but offers a number of decent wines by the glass or quartino, as well as by the bottle. Prices for wine are not hyper inflated, which is a nice consideration.
In sum, we loved La Rivista/ Broadway Joe's, and would happily return on our next visit to the city.
So delicious! Lunch time specials are definitely the way to go, value-wise. The atmosphere is great, and the waitstaff is very attentive! I would definitely come again!
