Live from new York, it's me telling you that Kenny & Zukes is the real deal: better actually because they smoke the pastrami much more heavily than you find in the East. They finish in the steam locker which is mandatory for good flavor and texture. Its in line with many other NW flavors such as salmon: much more flavor and character than the Atlantic version.
We stopped by here randomly for dinner while on a day trip to Portland. The place looked cute so we went in. Mid week around 6 so not alot of people. Got seated right away..our server was very nice and answered our questions and helped with our choices.
We got the dinner special/combo thing..came with a soup or salad(we got some mushroom soup! It was very good!) half sandwich (which was decent size, I got pastrami my husband got corned beef) a side(we choose fries and it was alot of fries!) and a sundae for dessert(i got pecan my husband got brownie,we liked the pecan sundae better) all for about $16(each)
Everything was good and it was alot of food,we where so full! My 7yr old got the hot dog and fries(about $7 for both) and that was a lot for her she could hardy finish the hot dog it was so big but she loved it.
In all we spent about $50(for food&drinks, pre tip) which isn't the cheapest BUT fairly average for a family of 3 eating at a restaurant .We all enjoyed it so I'm sure we'll be back next time we're in town!
Amazing place. Great atmosphere, great service and great food. I had the classic Ruben and it was the best I have ever had. Tender pastrami, just the right amount of sourcrout, well toasted. Just excellent!
