MoKaBe's is my got-to. My Cheers. When I am away from the Lou, I long for my place at the bar or a chair in the sun on the patio. There is no other place on the planet like MoKaBe's for great food; breakfast, lunch and dinner, not to mention the best Brunch on any Sunday, all served up by radical activists wearing the best T-shirts and a fridge covered in stickers you would want on your bumper. Hands down this place wins best of snark, tops in intelligent conversation and any playlist coming out of the speakers you are sure to find your groove on. xoxo
The coffee is great; the prices are reasonable (I find them to be slightly cheaper than nearby coffeehouses); and the politics are on point. The staff is professional and approachable but never obsequious or nosy. I appreciate this place as a late-night study spot especially. As a queer trans person, I feel very comfortable here.
I come to mokabes whenever I have an intense need to be surrounded by good people. The seating is great, especially the patio during spring and fall, and accommodates groups well. The menu has something for everyone, and I always find the soup of the day to be on point.
