We ordered takeout. 1 ahi/avocado bowl, 1 specialty roll (rainbow), 1 hosomaki (hamachi) and grabbed a seaweed salad side from the cold fridge. The prices here are very reasonable, a great value. The smell of the sushi when I opened the bag was inviting and authentic (toasted nori and sushi rice) The bowl was a 4, specialty roll a 3.5 because the short odd-cut sashimi pieces draping the California roll, hosomaki was a 5, seaweed salad a 3.
I recently dined at Hawaii Sushi, a restaurant specializing in sushi. The first thing that I noticed about the place was its nice atmosphere which was very welcoming and cozy. However, the overall experience was quite average and didn't live up to my expectations.
The first let down was the small portion sizes that were offered. They were not worth the price charged and left me wanting more. Although the food was decent, it wasn't exceptional and could have been better. Nevertheless, it was a better option compared to gas station sushi or convenience store sushi.
I opted for a takeout which was a smooth process and the staff was friendly enough to assist me with my order. The wait time was also reasonable considering I didn't place an online order beforehand. However, I wouldn't say that Hawaii Sushi was the best value for money.
In conclusion, Hawaii Sushi may not be the ideal place to enjoy sushi if you're looking for larger portions or higher quality sushi for the price. Although the atmosphere was pleasant, it was not enough to completely redeem my experience.
Local gem close to Waikiki! We loved the avocado bowls - a good portion for lunch after morning dives. The yellowtail poke tastes very good too.
