This is a absolute gem of authentic Mexican cuisine, I can see it being a great lunch option or for take out, this is a place to bring your friends.. The flavors are fresh, the menu is simple and unique. The atmosphere and the staff were very inviting. They kept the place very clean and well maintained despite being in a sketchy part of town. As a first time customer they were kind enough to let me sample some of the choices and be patient enough to explain their menu. These folks are just so nice, and made you feel welcome. The food is more of stew with sides than the drier Americanized Mexican cuisine you find at other Venues, but you still can get a taco. The salsa bar was delicious. We had a great meal, and will be back.
Food was delicious! Nothing like real authentic homemade Mexican food. I had the shredded chicken. Potatoes with cactus. A side of the cactus salad and a iced Mexican chocolate. I’ll definitely be coming back.
Very very nice place. Local spot. It is a rose in a bush of thorns. The area around the restaurant has fallen on hard times. As you drive to the restaurant you see the falling businesses in the area. Then you come upon the Abuelita’s and it is well represented. Clean out side, parking lot well lite and maintained. No one hanging around outside. Once you go inside the restaurant, the staff is quick to greet you and tell how to ordering works. My wife and I had a fantastic meal. The food is hot hot and tasty. The staff are constantly on the floor mopping, sweeping and quick to pick up the dishes. I got the small plate and almost could not finish it. We look forward to going back. Just make sure you go before the sun goes down. More then worth the trip.
Best Mexican food I had thus far in Richmond.
