Amazing. Writing a review off of my friends facebook. I used to go to this place years ago, when I was a young kid and we drive up an hour to go to Stonypoint Hospital/VCU Hos every few months. After my doc recommended it to us, we always went. It was a tradition to always go there after. The pizza is all we ever got. Its amazing. The cheese and sauce especially, is so good... I cant even fathom. My father was born and raises in Southern Italy, and he says its the best dang pizza you can get possibly in the tri-state area. I just recently came there a few days ago and had so much nostalgia seeing their family and staff again. They are so friendly and nice, and ontop of the amazing food, its a plus to always coming back. The food was just as good as I remembered. My friend got a chicken parm dinner, and said it was one of best Chix Parms he has ever eaten in his life. He said hes tempted to drive an hour + just to bring some food back home, hes glad I showed em the hidden gem. The setting in general is perfect because it kind of reminds you of home, I honestly cant believe I forgot the waiters name.. But we used to get him years ago, he is one of, if not the most, nicest waiter I have ever seen in my life. A+++ Will definitely come back again next time have a doc appt up there!
I have always wanted to come here but I never got around to it. Big mistake on my part, this might have been the best pizza I have in Richmond and I have been to many places from Mary Angelas, Belmont, Piccolas, 8 1/2, Christian's, candelas, Sergios, meditarraneo, mellow mushroom, and grimaldis (I know the last two are chains, but they are very good). These are all great places with Mary Angela's being the best of the group, but Frank's was simply better and tasted the closest thing to New York. We got a large with mushrooms, pepperoni, and sausage. The mushrooms were great, the sausage was sliced and delicious with both the pepperoni and sausage having a nice spicy bite to it. The sauce was delicious and the seasoning was great with a balanced marriage of basil and oregano. There is a ton of cheese on it (it was great) so make sure you have your plate close by! The bottom crust had light crisp on the outside and was soft on the inside. The crust had a great flavor to it and everything together made the pizza absolutely delicious! I did not expect this pizza to be so damn amazing. I was eating with my mother, who is from Brooklyn, has very high standards for pizza and she thought it was the best pizza in town unequivocally. My older brother is flying in from Los Angeles to help me move to L.A. and I want him to try it before I move so we are going next week. I wish I had discovered this little gem years ago as it is fantastic! I highly recommend anyone who loves pizza to come try it.
An another note, the mozzarella sticks were outstanding!
Meaning to write one for a while... have been multiple times. My children along for lunch, and dinner. On special dates with my wife, and just to order pizza. The atmosphere and service are exceptional! The food is top notch. Have tried several dishes on the menu, all were enjoyed and among my favorites. Have enjoyed pizza in Brooklyn and in Italy (Verona, Pisa, and Naples), all the Richmond pizza joints. I agree with a review above until I tried Franks, Mary Angelo's was local fave. Let me tell you having to cull my memory, the extra mozzarella an pepperoni at Franks holds its own. Their mozzarella sticks are second to none! The lasagna is beautiful, a perfect sauce... not too acidic, but deeply flavorful. Wouldn't be surprised if these are local or organic tomatoes. It is simply my favorite restaurant in RVA
